About Mike Shea - Mike Shea Photography

Everyone deserves to look their very best in a photograph. Whether it's a formal portrait or an image that captures a special moment, I believe everyone should have at least one portrait that truly reflects who they are.
When a child, Mike started out with and instant camera and taking pictures of friends, family the
dog, and anyone who would stay still long enough to be his subject. Years passed and a friend loaned
him a camera with interchangeable lenses. He found that by changing the lens, the subject's appearance changed.
Photography Isn't Really About Pictures
After more than 45 years behind the camera, I've learned something that surprises many people. The camera isn't the most important part of creating a great portrait. People are.
Most of the people who call me begin the conversation the same way.
"I hate having my picture taken."
They've had disappointing experiences before. They felt rushed, uncomfortable, or simply didn't know how to explain what they wanted. My job isn't to hand you a camera-ready smile. My job is to help you relax enough that your real personality shines through.
When that happens, the portrait almost creates itself.
My Philosophy
A great portrait should remind you how you felt—not just how you looked.
Whether we're creating a professional headshot, a family portrait, or a photograph of someone you love, I want you to see yourself at your very best.
Over the years I've developed a conversational approach that puts people at ease. We talk, we laugh, and before long you forget
there's a camera in the room.
That's when the magic happens.
More Than a Studio
My studio sits on more than five acres in the heart of Gainesville, Florida.
We have both an indoor studio and beautiful outdoor portrait areas, giving us the flexibility to create the style that fits you best. Whether you prefer a classic portrait, something relaxed and natural, or an environmental portrait outdoors, we can create it in one convenient location.
Experience Matters
Photography has changed dramatically over the years.
Today's cameras are incredible, but cameras don't create relationships, recognize genuine expressions, calm nervous children, or help someone who has never liked the way they look in photographs.
Experience does.
After photographing thousands of families, professionals, children, pets, and businesses, I've learned that every person is different. There isn't one pose that works for everyone. Every session is built around the people in front of the camera.
My Promise
My goal is simple.
I want you to enjoy the experience as much as the finished portraits.
I want you to leave saying,
"That was actually fun."
And when you see your finished portraits, I want you to feel proud enough to display them, share them with family, and enjoy them for years to come.
Many of my clients arrive as customers.
Quite a few leave as friends.
Let's Talk
The best portraits begin with a conversation.
That's why I offer a no-cost, no-obligation consultation before your session. We'll discuss your ideas, answer your questions, and make sure we're the right fit for each other.
If you're looking for portraits that feel natural, tell your story, and become something you'll treasure for years to come, I'd love to meet you.
